Our Mission
The East San Diego Historical Society's main goal is to create one place where past, present and future generations can learn about the history our community. We believe that by teaching others about the history of our community we can re-instill in them the sense of pride, dignity and fellowship that once came with being a resident of East San Diego. One of our long term goals is to designate an area of the community as the "East San Diego Historical District" and work to restore and renovate the businesses, homes and streets within the district without tearing them down and building new housing developments that add to the poverty and density of the neighborhood.
Along with teaching our history we would also like to find ways to help the community of City Heights, especially the youth. We are actively looking to develop relationships with other community based groups that share our common interests and goals. More importantly, we are actively looking to develop relationships with the residents, business owners, parents and youth of East San Diego/City Heights to develop programs that benefit them directly.
